Dr. Jordan Garrison is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in bariatric surgery. In four years, he has completed close to 200 procedures. He performs the minimally invasive, Roux-en-Y approach to bariatric surgery, averaging 2-3 procedures per week.
Dr. Garrison received his medical training from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), where he received his M.D. in 1983 and completed his residency in 1989. He has specialized training in bariatric surgery from New England Medical Center and Jersey Shore Medical Center. He is a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Surgeons.
The Garrison Center was founded to help navigate the challenges on the journey from obesity to vibrant health. For people who are severely overweight, bariatric surgery may be an important step in the process of losing excess weight. The center's founder, Dr. Jordan M. Garrison, Jr., performs minimally invasive Roux-en-Y and LapBand procedures in appropriate candidates.
Surgery is just one piece of the puzzle however. Those who choose surgery also need caring, comprehensive support, education, and assistance with a full range of elements for a successful long-term outcome. With compassion and a focus on the practical needs of its patients, the Garrison Center is committed to working with patients through each of these steps.
In addition to providing pre- and post-surgical education, the center's expert staff provide rigorous education and support regarding nutrition, dietary changes, and exercise. Psychosocial needs are addressed by professional counselors with sensitivity and expertise. The center also hosts clothing exchanges, recipe exchanges, and support groups where patients can share their experiences and encourage one another.
